Further improvements and developments of the electrospinning of nano-size fibers require a better understanding of the various processes at play. Numerical modeling can in this respect provide very valuable qualitative insights about the electrospinning process that would be otherwise extremely difficult to gather from experimental measurements alone. In the course of this presentation, the main principles of discrete fiber modelling will be discussed, eventually leading to an assesment of some outstanding issues hindering the implementation of numerically efficient and physically realistic models.
