Tissue Engineering is a cross-disciplinary field combining concepts and logistics from both Life and Physico-Chemical Sciences. The long term goal of this field is to replace and regenerate defective tissues or organs by hybrid implants composed by stem cells seeded within a scaffold. In case of bone tissue, the success in the design of an optimal implant with large size is largely reinforced by the set-up of model based experiments. Some examples of mathematical model of fluid flow through porous media and associated transport phenomena, designed for such a purpose, will be presented.
